Mrs. Diez-McNicholas also volunteers to run the school newsletter, which publishes four, unique copies per year featuring student art and literature. She selflessly purchases items for the school - for example, she personally purchased 30 flags for NMS' multi-cultural community event and regularly buys lunches and school supplies for disadvantaged students.Mrs. Diez-McNicholas assisted with organizing the eighth grade end-of-the-year picnic, which serves 350 students. She reaches out to help the community, which is important in a Title 1 building where 90% of the students are minorities and 75% of the parents do not speak English as their first language. Students love her and spend their free periods with her, and parents come to the school to meet with her.
