Frenchie Travis

She is a member of Mountain of Blessings Christian Center and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Mrs. Travis graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Chemistry and began her career as a chemist. After two years in her field, she decided to pursue a career in teaching.As a middle school math and science teacher, Mrs. Travis has 13 years of teaching experience. She was a science teacher in Newport News Public Schools for five years, and a math teacher in Richmond City Public Schools for eight years. This upcoming school year, Mrs. Travis is excited about beginning a new venture as a middle school science educator with Henrico County Public Schools. Her experiences range from teaching alternative students to gifted and advanced students. During her tenure as a teacher, she has served as Departmental Chair for Science and Math. She has also hosted several Professional Learning Communities within her schools in both districts, and she has presented many professional development sessions for district-wide training in Richmond City Public Schools.Mrs. Travis works consistently to build relationships with her students and motivate them to be successful. She is well-versed with using data to guide instruction for her students, and she often ties in real-life experiences to enhance learning in the classroom. Additionally, she provides extra support for students outside of the classroom during her planning period, offers after school tutoring and Saturday Academy. Mrs. Travis is also a valued asset in her community; she offers academic support free of charge to those in need.As a career changer, Mrs. Travis continues to evolve as an educator. She is constantly looking for new ways to engage her students and promote overall student success. She has a proven track record of helping and motivating students to make significant gains in their academic progress.
