About the Nominee: Angela Sanders was nominated by a colleague, Selena Swartzfager.Ms. Sanders was selected as the Economics Teacher of the Year in 2015 as a result of the outstanding work she does in the classroom with her students. She was also recognized because of her work with the MS Council on Economic Education as a consultant that provides professional development for other Mississippi educators.Ms. Sanders is a Master Teacher of Economics who has coached the winning team of the state economics challenge for the past four years. In addition, she has coached the first place Mississippi High School Finance Challenge team for the past two years. In 2015, her students won more than $13,000 in cash awards and scholarships by participating in economics and personal finance competitions.In 2016, the MS Council on Economic Education hired Ms. Sanders to help with a revision of the Master Teacher of Economics program. She assisted Dr. Nicholas Hill, a college professor, with the teaching of the program to other educators in June 2016. The evaluations received on her efforts were outstanding! She helped to train 28 new educators that are highly qualified to teach economics as either a stand alone high school course or as a strand within another course (i.e, US History, Math or English). Ms. Sanders is highly committed to success, both inside and outside of the classroom. She is a wonderful LifeChanger!
