About the Nominee: Ben Fiacco was nominated by his principal, Michael Mukai.Ben Fiacco changes lives. As the Systems of Support advisor, his job is to help students succeed in school. Whether they have been out for illness, family issues, emotional challenges, or disciplinary reasons, Mr. Fiacco's goal is to help them find success. He has helped to establish an alternative school program within the building that offers a student-centered blended digital classroom. This has helped countless students to reach their goals and graduate successfully. West Springfield High School has seen an increased graduation rate thanks to Mr. Fiacco.He has also been able to help students find alternative programs, including ones that lead to industry certifications and future employment. In addition, Mr. Fiacco is also the school's head wrestling coach. Bringing his own experience as a wrestler for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mr. Fiacco inspires young athletes to pursue their dreams. Whether it is on the mat or in the classroom, every student needs a mentor, and Mr. Fiacco has helped students in their time of need by being that mentor. The students and their parents have repeatedly thanked the school for having him on staff.
