About the Nominee: Francene Breakfield was nominated by a colleague, Kia James.In 2011, Newton Public Schools faced financial difficulties across all three high schools in the district. As a result, their seniors were left with no one to assist them with their financial needs as they prepare for college. Dr. Francene Breakfield stepped up to the plate.In addition to her duties as Head Counselor of Newton High School, Dr. Breakfield made it her goal to focus on helping seniors get into college and helping parents and students find scholarship money. Since 2012, she has had 13 GATES scholars and four POSSE winners, and her students receive an average of $9 million in scholarship offers each year. She has been dedicated to helping Newton High School's seniors achieve their educational goals. In addition to working with seniors, she also teaches art classes in Newton High's after-school program every week. She has also served as Step Team Coach and advisor for the ALANHS (Academy of Liberal Arts at NHS) magnet students. Currently, she serves as the Lead Counselor for Secondary Education in Newton County.
