La Toya Sanders

This is the second year Ms. Sanders has been nominated for LifeChanger of the Year. She was previously nominated in 2015-16.La Toya Sanders was the very first employee hired for the Michigan Math and Science Academy when it originally opened in 2009. She has never called in sick and has received perfect attendance recognition each year. For this reason, she is affectionately known as the "Mother" of MMSA. Ms. Sanders goes above and beyond for her students. Her office is a safe haven for the entire student body, grades K-12. The students are her world!Ms. Sanders is the face of the school. She is an effective leader who makes sure that the day-to-day operations of the school are running smoothly. She participates in various activities with her students and is an Ivy League mentor. She recently drove a group of students to Chicago for a national spelling bee competition.Ms. Sanders has dedicated her heart and soul to her students, and the parents and students love her! She is so closely connected to her students that she is often invited to spend holidays with their families. Ms. Sanders has worked in the field of education for over 16 years, spending the last 7 years at MMSA. In her spare time, she serves on the Board Of Directors for the Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast Michigan, an organization dedicated to serving the needs of children with Down Syndrome. She is also an active volunteer at various events that are run by the organization. Ms. Sanders is the "Mother" that every child deserves.
