About the Nominee: Laura Schaefer was nominated by her principal, Melissa Rodriguez.Laura Schaefer is a wonderful role model to PS 140's students! She appreciates and works with her students, not only on academics, but on building their confidence and compassion. Ms. Schaefer values the idea of a "good person," and that is quickly observed when one enters her classroom. It is inquiry-based and a place where students are encouraged to question and debate topics/concepts. Students take full ownership in her class. At PS 140, which is a Title 1 School, Ms. Schaefer's students have great needs. She makes every effort to compensate for these needs by offering family nights, instructional trips, and opportunities for students to feel proud of themselves and their accomplishments.
