About the Nominee: David Wilson was nominated by a colleague, Jennifer Paepke.Mr. Wilson is a lifelong Beloit resident who has filled his career and life with doing what is best for his town's students and families. He has worked for the Stateline Boys and Girls Clubs and volunteered in several community organizations and events. Now, he works for the School District of Beloit as the coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. Mr. Wilson's job is only the tip of the iceberg in the expanse of work he does for his district's students and their families.Mr. Wilson is a member of the Core Management Team for the Safe Schools Healthy Students grant. Through this role, he has been an influential force in networking with community agencies and their work to become critical partners with the school district. He is passionate in his mission to incorporate the work of the grant and the schools with the work of community organizations, including Latino Service Providers Coalition, Community Action of Rock County, Beloit Police Department, Rock County Human Services, Stateline Boys and Girls Clubs, Beloit Health Systems, Rock County Head Start, etc. According to Ms. Paepke, it is critical for the district's work to have representation reflective of the local community in decision making. Mr. Wilson has helped maintain these partnerships to accomplish this goal.Over the past few years, Mr. Wilson has volunteered in multiple schools in the district as a mentor to at-risk youth. He partners with school staff to work with students and families and help them realize their value and potential. It is impossible to visit any school or community event without seeing both students and parents (as well as countless staff and community members) who excitedly say, "Mr. David!" He has facilitated small groups with school staff, and connects families with resources to support them.This fall, the School District of Beloit was fortunate to welcome Mr. Wilson as one of their own. While his specific job duties are significant, Mr. Wilson extends his passion for students and work far beyond his duties to maintain the relationships he has created. He serves as a trainer for staff in Restorative Practices. Additionally, he has partnered with Rock County Juvenile Justice and the WI Department of Health Services in an initiative to divert school-aged youth from entering the court system.A father of two and a husband to an incredible woman, Mr. Wilson balances the responsibilities of family, job, and an endless sense of giving back to the community where he was raised. He makes LifeChanging differences for youth every single day!
